Wakefield Wildcats under 19s fell to a 20-4 defeat at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium in a hard fought encounter.

Captain Corbyn Kilday was part of the team against the Rhinos.

The visitors scored four tries in a battle of the forwards with Trinity winger Tom Johnstone notching the only score for the hosts who can hold their heads high after a gutsy performance.

The Rhinos went into the game having won their opening 12 fixtures of the academy format while the Wildcats were in ninth position after a mixed start to the campaign.

The first score went to the visitors as Baldwinson was on the receiving end of a neat play through the middle of the park with the forward finishing underneath the sticks.

The Wildcats then offered Leeds their next score on a plate as full-back Mathew Cook dropped the ball under just 10 metres out from his own line for Baldwinson to pick up for his second of game. 10-0

The Wildcats then started to gain some pressure and forced a second drop out of the game but the hosts didn’t take advantage as a last play kick dribbled out of play for a 20 metre restart.

Dickens’ men were then made to pay as Duckworth went over the line in the corner after Leeds created the overlap on right edge to make it 14-0.

Wakefield ended the half on the front foot though and Tom Johnstone went over in the final five minutes from a Scott Lee kick. The winger superbly touched down just inches before the dead ball line as Kittrick missed a difficult conversion.

The second half was a war of attrition and Wakefield were thankful for top quality defence by Sam Doherty, Mathew Cook and Johnstone who all stopped certain scores which kept the game respectable.

The only try in the final 40 minutes came in last quarter of the game as White broke clear and had enough determination and power to put the ball down with Sutcliffe converting to end the game with a 20-4 victory.
